The Flaming Lips are taking part in a new tribute album for indie rockers Sparklehorse.
News of the project, dubbed Last Box of Sparklers, comes three years after Sparklehorse frontman Mark Linkous took his own life.
According to "Rolling Stone," it's being put together by Box of Stars, which is a non-profit organization that works to promote awareness of mental health issues. They've culled together a lineup that, in addition to the Flaming Lips, also includes the Joy Formidable, Mark Lanegan, Mercury Rev, Cowboy Junkies, Phantogram, and more.
Box of Stars says the album is three-quarters complete, and they've started a campaign on the crowd-funding site IndieGoGo.com to raise the money to finish the tribute.
The funds will also go toward building an archive of personal stories about mental health for Box of Stars' website and YouTube channel. They're hoping to raise $50,000, and recently passed the $15,000 mark. The campaign is scheduled to end on November 20th.
