Gerard Way Releasing Solo Debut In September

Gerard Way is laying out the plans for his solo debut.  The former My Chemical Romance frontman says the first album released under his own name -- dubbed Hesitant Alien -- will be out September 30th.

Way explains that his intention with Hesitant Alien was to "make 100 percent uncompromised art" using the guitar, which he calls "the currently least radio-friendly instrument" out there.

Way says he drew influence from some of his art school guitar heroes, Mary Timony and Carrie Brownstein, as well as genres like shoegaze and Britpop.  He adds that he wanted the new album to "sonically galvanize people."

Way is set to make his live solo debut and unveil some new tunes at the upcoming Reading and Leeds festivals in the U.K.  He'll be at Reading on August 22nd and Leeds on August 23rd.
